Nearly every NBA player participated in an AAU event at the youth or high school level, and the organization is running strong to this day. WebAAU basketball was particularly strong in the Midwest, Southwest and West Coast, where the NBA had not yet established a presence. [3] [4] The top teams also played in the National Industrial Basketball League , which began play in the 1947–48 season, [5] two years before the establishment of the NBA.
