First, don't use metal ore stones, gypsum, and other stone that is listed as "economic stone" - they can be used for some specific purposes. Second, don't use regular stone - make blocks out of it first. Divine metal also survives dragonfire, though a suit of it won't protect the dwarf inside. Logistically, divine metal has a huge advantage over adamantine.
